Golfers and Sponsorships

After reading some articles about the recent sponsorships deals surrounding Graeme McDowell and Jim Furyk, I realized golf is just the same as all the other sports. McDowell left his Callaway sponsorship and signed with Srixon and Jim Furyk left Srixon to sign with TaylorMade. At least Graeme McDowell gave himself a year to know which clubs he liked best before signing with anyone.

The reason I find this odd is because golf is such a personal game and depends so much on the feel of a club to that individual player. TaylorMade recently made their xFT Wedge with replaceable faces just so you wouldn’t have to get the feel of a new grip or club. It’s interesting to see how these Tour players switch around from sponsorship and have to adjust to new clubs. Guess you have to make a living somehow right?
