European Tour Set to Overshadow the US PGA Tour?

With no weather delays in sight this week the annual Bob Hope Classic will take place down in the dessert this Wednesday. The La Quinta Country Club will be hosting the pro-am. Bill Haas is the defending champion on this course he recently came in 8th at Kapalua. But there are quiet a few players who are looking to take that title away a few notables are Matt Kuchar, Bubba Watson, and Steve Marino.

Over at the European Tour, which will most likely eclipse the Bob Hope Classic, the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship will begin this week in the United Arab Emirates. The star power (not celebs like at the Bob Hope Classic-real golfers) at Abu Dhabi will really kick off the 2011 season. You have 4 of golfs top 5 players including #1 Lee Westwood in the lineup. The U.S. PGA Tour has always been thought to have a stronger following but that will certainly not be the case this week and possibly this season. The European Tour has a much stronger field of players. My personal hopes for this week is that Martin Kaymer will come out with a victory and replace Tiger Woods in the #2 position in the world rankings.

In a not so surprising announcement Jose Maria Olazabal was named Europe’s Ryder Cup caption on Tuesday. He will try and defend Europe’s trophy against the U.S. in Medinah 2012. This Spaniard has played in 7 Ryder Cups and was the VC for the last 2 match ups. He was the clear and unanimous choice for Europe. David Love III is expected to be the choice for the U.S. caption.
